Break The War, is a breakdance hip-hop festival, consisting of street dance and multi-category/all-styles, dance competitions, workshops, as well as graffiti and performance art exhibitions. The Breakdance and All style competitions will be 1vs1 as well as 3vs3 crew battle formats, for both adults and kids, in separate age group categories. Instructors, adjudicators, DJs & performance artists will include respected, local and international artists.

Historical & Contextual Framework

Breakdance can trace its roots in Ireland as far back as the 1980s, with popular crews in Ireland including Dizzy Footwork in Dublin and Belfast City Breakers in Northern Ireland. Now with multiple dance schools and hip-hop collectives in Ireland, It remains a popular activity with a strong presence in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Wexford and Belfast.

Diversity Statement

The event at its core is a celebration of diversity and inclusivity through hiphop music, dance and visual art. The project coordinators are entirely committed to ensuring the event encourages diversity. The event will be marketed to a number of dance schools in the city and the competition format is organised in separate age group categories for kids ages 6-17 and adults ages 18 and above.
